This was a fun read! Back when I worked as an assignment editor for a newspaper, I was always surprised by how many photographers didn't have a website. Recently, I've been really inspired by the websites of Tyler Mitchell (https://www.tylermitchell.co/) and Mark Mahaney (https://markmahaney.com/). The agency Claxton Projects (https://thisislandscape.com/projects/claxton-projects/) had an amazing site too – but they sadly shut down awhile back.

How strange, did they only pitch with their socials? I just couldn’t do that, I assumed that came across lazy and unprofessional to editors?

Thanks for the recommendations, going to check them out now.

Daniel Arnold's website is simply brilliant! I like that you can choose to show the photo's unsorted, on top of each other and then you can simple click and drag them around. Just like you would with a pile of actual photos :)

It’s so good, whoever made it is very talented. The guy doesn’t need a portfolio he can just have a pile of photos to sort through like you mentioned!

Love this!

Mine is very much a "build in public" effort as I navigate having a site while still on a very emergent journey.

Here's mine in its current state but it is likely to go through another update as I'm about to start a project-based class at CPW which will likely lead me to make some changes.

Absolutely loved this one and totally agree! I used to always look at bands websites and record labels sites too and totally relate to this. I agree that it’s also crucial if you are cold emailing or pitching yourself in any way. I get a couple of enquiries a week through my website contact form and I’ve had great success pitching and linking to a particular folder of work that really shows my style well and who I’ve worked for. It just gives you that extra legit feeling when you have your own site. Can’t wait to check yours out!

Thanks Lucy. You’re right, it’s a good feeling flicking over your website details when pitching knowing it’s all you.

Back in the days before the social platforms I made so many connections through websites - there's nothing like making effort to see what people have done rather than have it thrust upon you ... I will look through this selection with interest - perhaps there needs to be a list somewhere? Once upon a time there was a thing called photoblogs.org - a certain Mr Brandon Stone used to do a lot of stuff in this area including organising meetups.

Anyway. FWIW my site is at 100realpeople.co.uk

Agree, browsing a website is much more fulfilling than a scroll through a persons socials. Thanks for sharing.
