Live Gallery: Headsend
Big Pineapple Festival - 1.11.25
To mark a year of taking this concert photography thing seriously, I was once again back at The Big Pineapple Festival, taking some photos. A pleasant reflection of how far I have come in this journey, as I now work directly with a band for this year’s festival. Rather than getting lifestyle shots for the event itself.
I reached out to Headsend and supplied my creative portfolio and packages. Delighted to hear back from them and get the nod. With no official music released at the time, from what I could see online, I knew they were a band I would want to shoot and see more from. I hate to characterise bands without them doing so themselves, but if I had to slot Headsend somewhere, it would be like the love child of Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins. Though the parents had a fallout, and that child then grew up with The Deftones and Silverchair as an influence. Some very big and tasty names to drop, I do believe it’s worth it in this case.
Technically, it was such a delight being out in the sunshine shooting again. My lens was in shock as the aperture was throttled up to f8 and f11. Also allowing me to use some super-fast shutter speeds to freeze motion. What a treat when capturing live music.
Speaking to their management backstage before the show, I was given a good idea of what the boys were chasing. They were a fan of my wide-angle black and white work (speak to me), while asking for some stealthy behind-the-scenes stuff. Sold!
A really big-sounding band, for just the three of them. Easy fitting into the must-see live category. Rasmus shreds on guitar and has a fantastic range of low and high vocals. His older brother Kyuss’ bass bounces solidly with a consistent head nod throughout the set. I do believe it’s Bon on the drums that ties it all together, consistently hard-hitting, and his fast fills thump behind the brothers up front. Had a blast working with the team and am very much looking forward to shooting some more shows for them. They have upcoming supports with Tool and AC/DC… heard of them?
They have since released their first single; go take a listen here
Here are some of my favourite shots from the day.
